TIPS AND TRICKS: Getting Spring Ready Nails

Now that spring is upon us and the weather is starting to warm up, it’s the perfect time to get your nails ready for the warm weather since they don’t have to hide behind any mittens.  I’ve got some tips from Dana Caruso, Sally Hansen beauty expert, to help get yours in shape:

“As the beauty expert for Sally Hansen and a seasoned manicurist, I wanted to share a few easy insider tips on how to keep your nails looking their best with spring around the corner and how you can achieve salon quality results in the comfort of your home and for a fraction of the price.

The great Canadian winters especially with the up-and-down temps can wreak havoc on your nails, whether its dry skin, cuticles or splitting nails, Sally Hansen has key products to keep your skin supple and nails healthy. Your DIY mani/pedi routine should incorporate a selection of strengthening, nourishing and moisturizing products to defend against environmental stress and help prolong your manicured nails.

Treating your cuticles is one of the most important inclusions to your weekly nail regime, particularly when the cooler weather sucks the moisture from your body, your skin is drier and in need of a little more TLC. When treating the cuticle it’s important to follow the “GOLDEN RULE” only remove what is torn, cracked, and lifted! NEVER cut what is attached and intact. Sally Hansen’s Cuticle Eraser Balm, contains cucumber and green tea extracts known to moisturize, soothe and nourish rough dry skin. If the cuticle is neglected it can become dehydrated and potentially sore, so it’s a good idea to keep your cuticles supple and nourished.

For strengthening and nourishing your nails, look for a base coat that has both these properties. I like to use Sally Hansen’s Complete Smooth and Strong Base Coat, infused with Pro-vitamin B. Pro-vitamin B originates from oysters found in the ocean and helps promote nail growth. Complete Smooth and Strong Base Coast, also contains Spirulina, a Blue – Green Algae rich in proteins, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and is great for nourishing and strengthening nails. Remember your base coat is key to a long-lasting manicure.

Polished nails are an essential accessory to perfect any outfit. Remember to look for a polish that allows your nails to breath for optimal moisture, balance and yellow reduction. Sally Hansen’s Smooth and Perfect colour palette is on trend and has an assortment of eight nude shades to keep your digits looking stylish this season. My favourite shade is Whisper as it can complement any outfit.

Combining these products into your nail routine will keep your nails looking healthy, beautifully polished and manicured all the way through the dreary winter months and into the spring season.”
