OPI Push And Shove (with Lay Down The Base) – Swatch

Towards the end of last year, OPI announced its exciting collaboration with blonde bombshell Gwen Stefani, a collection that was sure to be full of bold colours and finishes.  I swatched a few of the shades a couple of weeks ago (take a look here) but there was one more that I absolutely couldn’t wait to try out – OPI Push and Shove.  Touted as OPI’s first chrome polish, I was beyond excited after hearing about it and was extremely eager to try it out.  I’ve now gotten my hands on it and I’ve got swatches for you to check out!

Push and Shove is designed to be worn over the Lay Down The Base base coat that comes as part of the duet set when the polish is purchased.  I’ve heard of others trying other base coats and from the sounds of it the polish just doesn’t work properly over these. It’s also designed to be worn without a top coat (although I had to play devil’s advocate and threw some on over top and didn’t have any problem with this).  The directions are simple: apply one thin coat of Lay Down the Base and allow to dry completely before applying two thin coats of Push and Shove.  One other item of note: the packaging does state “Like all limited engagement events, Push and Shove is intended for One Night Only wear.”  I’ve only had it one for today, so I can’t comment on this yet, but we’ll see how it wears and if I’m able to get away with it for a couple of days – I’m assuming the top coat I added will help to prolong the life of this mani.

This polish looks great on, especially from further away.  It isn’t as shiny as I had hoped, but has a nice glow to it and the silver is perfect.  I find this shade to be reminiscent of a metallic silver sharpie (you know what I’m talking about).  You may have noticed that I said it looks better from further away – due to the chrome nature of this polish, ridges and bumps show up really well, so I suggest buffing you nails before polishing to give the smoothest look possible.  Also, thinner coats are definitely key here as this polish tends to show brush strokes more.  All that being said, I am a fan of Push and Shove and will definitely be throwing it on when I feel like “showing off.”

What do you think of this polish?
