Who doesn’t love spending a day on the beach? Warm sun, soft sand and rolling waves make for the perfect spot to relax on a beautiful summer day. I’ve been pretty busy lately but have been able to to get down to the beach a few times.

When spending time at the beach you definitely need to be prepared. I’ve put together some of my beach mag must-haves to help you decide what you need to bring along with you for a day in the sun. What are your beach day essentials?

I’m going to start by saying sun protect is an absolute must when you are spending a day in the sun. By now, I’m sure we all know about the dangers of prolonged sun exposure. Make sure you stock up on sunscreen to make sure your skin is protected during a long day on the beach. Right now, I’m really loving Vichy Capital Soleil Invisible Mist (SPF 50) The spray format makes it easy to hit every part of your body when you don’t have anyone around to help you get those hard to reach places. For the face, I prefer something a bit lighter and non-greasy. Vichy Aqualia Thermal UV Hydrating Treatment (SPF 15) and Skinceuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense (SPF 50) are perfect for this, providing more lightweight facial protection. And of course, you can’t forget about the little ones… Garnier Ombrelle Kids Mineral Lotion (SPF 50+) makes sure their little bodies are safe from the sun – not to mention you can definitely use this on yourself!

Of course, while we like to stay protected from the sun, there’s nothing wrong with giving yourself a bit of a glow. Keep your tan looking great longer with the Jergens Natural Glow Tan Extender. Moisturizing extends the life of a tan, and it even helps to add a bit of colour to your skin – but not enough that you have to worry about staining or streaking! For the face, the Vita Liberata Trystal Minerals Self Tanning Bronzing Minerals is the bomb. Since it is a bronzer, it gives the face an automatically golden look once it’s been buffed on… But the best part is that the powder acts as a self tanner that is activated by your moisturizer or foundation, so a glow develops while you wear it! Of course, now that your beautiful and bronzed, you can perk up your look with a killer nail polish, like the fun Ceramic Glaze polishes pictured above.

Don’t forget about your hair! If you’re going to be splashing around in the pool or in the lake/beach, bring along a leave-in treatment like the Dessange Paris Oleo Miracle Replenishing Oil. Once you get out of the water (and before you jump in if you remember!) apply some throughout your mane to lock in moisture and prevent chlorine from drying your hair or helping colour to fade more quickly. I also love to bring along a salt spray, like the John Frieda Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray (and no, you don’t have to be a blonde to love & use this one!). I spritz some in my hair, scrunch it up and let it air dry for a wavy look without the fuss! Bonus – this one smells like coconuts. Love!

What do you like to throw in your bag for a day at the beach?
